About Me

Hi there! Thanks for visiting my blog!

My name is Sarah Helm and I am just beginning my 7th year of teaching (Fall 2013).

I have taught 1st and 2nd grade, but my heart belongs in 2nd. I am just amazed at the eagerness, independence, and smarts of my 2nd graders every year! I feel very lucky to be where I am in my life right now.

Anything exciting going on in life right now?
I recently got married and am loving married life! Everyone asks me, "How's married life?!" and I always respond "Not much has changed :) But that's a good thing, right?!" I am thankful to have found my one and only match. I am extremely thankful for him every single day.

Who are the members of your family?
We have a Great Dane, Malone, and two kitties, Porter and Gus.

What's coming up this school year for you?
The 2013-2014 school year is shaping up to be a busy one! I am beginning my National Boards and although I am nervous, I am very excited, too. I love professional challenges and I am lucky to not only have an amazingly supportive husband who will undoubtedly push me along when I am feeling overwhelmed, but I also have extremely supportive teammates are my school.

How do you challenge yourself?
I have been challenging myself professionally with this blog and my TPT store. It is so fun to learn from other amazing teachers out there, I find myself getting lost in blog land often, not knowing how I ended up on someone's blog! But I love it!! I couldn't possibly be the teacher I am today, or strive to be the teacher I want to be, without this blogging world. What a difference it has made! And TPT is a whole other world that I have loved being a part of. The creativity teachers have is amazing to me, I want to be them, but mostly I want to work along side them! I love the challenge they unknowingly provide me. TPT is a life changer.

Where do you see yourself in 10 years?
That is so hard to say. I know I will forever be in education. I love teaching and have recently been teaching teachers how to use technology in their classrooms and I am loving that, too! One thing I do know for sure though, I hope to be a mom within 10 years... sooner would be better :)

  1. Hi Sarah!

My name is Katie Daugherty. I’m writing to you from WiseDecor Decorative Lettering, in Greensboro, NC where we design and create our own wall decals. We’ve been around for ten years, and this time of year we get an influx of requests from teachers to create designs for their classrooms. In fact, we just came up with this new classroom rules design, based on feedback from a teacher out of Utah last week.

In our quest to learn more about our teacher community, we came across your "Wishful Teaching" blog. I really admire how passionate you are about the appearance and organization of your classroom! Including the wonderful Classroom Basics classroom decor package that you did. And it’s nice to see the appreciation expressed from the people in your life as well as in the comments from your community.

Would you be open to doing a give-away of a $75 gift certificate from us on your blog? I think it would be a fun, well-received way encourage and energize your fellow teachers as they prepare for the upcoming school year. I’ll be glad to discuss the details via email or over the phone during our office hours. You can reach me M-F, 8:30am – 4:30pm, EDT at 336.542.2762.

I look forward to speaking with you, Sarah!

    Best Wishes,
    Katie Daugherty
